Explorer Post 411

 

Meetings: Every Thursday 6:30 at Fire station

 

The Vernon Fire Department Explorer post is up and running. They are busy learning how to use the equipment, where equipment is stored on the trucks, types of fires, and self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).  Any young adult who has completed the eighth grade, is between the ages of 14 and 21 can become a fire explorer.

 

The exploring experience contributes to the healthy development of today's young adults by providing them with the environment, resources, and relationships they need to learn and grow.

 

Goals of the Explorer post:

  • Develop sustained, caring relationships with adults

  • Receive guidance in facing serious challenges

  • Become a valued member of a constructive peer group

  • Feel a sense of worth as a person

  • Become socially competent

  • Know how to use support systems

  • Achieve a reliable basis for making informed choices

  • Participate in the constructive expression of curiosity and exploration

  • Believe in a promising future with real opportunities

  • Find ways of being useful to others
