About Us

The Vernon Volunteer Fire Company was began in 1951 and was know as the Vernon Men's Club. The club at the time was made up of volunteer members and received no support from the town in the way of funding (see our History).

Today, we have two organizations at work. The Vernon Volunteer Fire Department which is owned and finance by the town through local taxes. This is to say, the town of Vernon owns the Fire Station, the trucks and all the equipment needed for support. The town by no means employees anyone to work for the Fire Department. The second group is the Vernon Volunteer Fire Company, made up of volunteers originating from the Vernon Men's Club. Like any club such as the Masons, the Elks, or the Moose Loge, the Vernon Volunteer Fire Company's has a strict set of bylaws and its only support comes from private donations, chicken barbeques, and ham suppers put on by the Company members. Most of the monies that come into the Company is then used to support its members in training and supplies not covered by the town, the Vernon Fire Explorer Post, or goes back out the the community to support families in need.

The Vernon Volunteer Fire Company is dedicated to the safety and protection of its residents. Our members, both male and female, come from all walks of life. As volunteers, members receive no pay or incentives from the town, and donated many hours away from their families to support the town. On each call being fire or medical, members risk their lives to help others.

In the past, the primary goal of the Vernon Volunteer Fire Company was the safety of peoples homes and property. However, as time grew and state laws changed demanding more responsibility from the towns, the roles have  changed. We now have became the Vernon Volunteer Fire Rescue Company
